Ladi Rainbow was always fascinated by the art of hairbraiding as a young girl. At the tender age of 3, she began experimenting with anything she could get her hands on. By braiding palms, strings, mops and whatever was available, she began to figure out the patterns. By the time she was 9, she felt ready and told her mother to sit down to have her hair "plaited". While her first experiment drew gentle chiding, Ladi Rainbow was undeterred.
By the age of 13, Ladi Rainbow was "braiding for money". She began to take on customers with all hair types. At first it was a challenge; she clearly recalls two Caucasian visitors who urged her to braid their hair even as she tried to decline (having never worked with this hair texture before). With the encouragement of her new customers and a growing crowd, Ladi Rainbow was pleasantly surprised to discover that her skill was universal. She perfected her hair designs, and now feels at home with all hair textures.
Realizing that what she was developing was a product that would be judged by its quality, Ladi Rainbow got herself licensed to do hair braiding as Authentic Braids by Ladi Rainbow, setting a standard that is not easy to follow. Ladi Rainbow considers it a privilege to carry on a tradition of pride in our crowning glory: our hair.
